2) Why does the Hawaii Wellness Institute consider life experience so valuable?
The Wellness Counselor
Career Training and Certification Program is based on
the concept of peer support as used in Alcoholic Anonymous.
By learning and growing from past mistakes, the peer counselor
becomes proficient in identifying the special needs of a
client that suffers from the same issues the counselor once
endured. Wellness counselors serve to coach their peers
through a series of questions rather than offering advice.
When you consistently give, you will ultimately be rewarded.
Wellness counselors can earn $65 per session assisting others
to improve the quality of their lives. The very nature of
the work keeps the wellness counselor on track in their
own personal life, striving to become a better and better
role model.
"This is true spirituality expressed. This training has provided tools to bring order, ambition, and vision into my life."

Students who apply for online training at a distance will be screened as this option requires motivation and self discipline. It is mandatory that each week each distance learning student:
- read assigned pages in the text and workbook
- return completed exercises
- take the quizzes
- provide one journal entry
- submit notes from two counseling sessions, along with completed confidential consultation" and "session evaluation" forms
- attend the live webinar.
At a distance learners will receive personal email support and telephone consultations as needed. The tuition for this option is the same as the onsite program: $1,950 for the Wellness Counselor Training and $1,099 for the Professional Development Program. The same application fee and payment plan amounts as for onsite students also apply.
